While Roses Slumber

While Roses Slumber

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

The fist emblazoned promise-

nestled in Winter’s arms-

bloomed well before Easter-

rushing Spring in all her charm-

The Daffodils came early-

with yellows all aglow

while the roses sweetly slumbered-

resting in their rows-

the dogwoods quickly followed-

so, nev'- they be alone.

For me, conversations with plant life have always been a tricky endeavor. In the first place, I always have to remind myself that the very nature of my captivation is a product of its manipulation... Like the bees, I am attracted to the pretty colors and their alluring fragrances. So right from the start, they have me add the pollination dynamic and seed-spreading motivation and quickly I come to realize that these flowers and plants are basically just controlling me for their own purposes and of course, I am a willing participant because I give in to the temptation to surround myself in their beauty but in the end, they will wither till next spring and once again I will be left alone and wishing to repeat the cycle over again! Is it all surprising that I equate flowers with femininity?

Maybe, the flowers 💐 have manipulated us whispering to us. Helping us grow.

LOL, I was hoping my review would illicit a chuckle from you:)
Nice abbreviation there. So nev'. They nev'. It works and catches the mind. Lonely flowers just don't look right. They need company. Even if it's a tree. The roses slumbering verse rests very nicely in my mental row!

I kind of like that line too. Takes on a animated vibe.
dearest Cherrie… “while the Roses sweetly slumbered— resting in their rows”… your poetry has given me a Prayer as the Sun and Rain fall and nourish each lovely Petal … I have added a Red Rose to my Garden. tenderly, Pat

We have our daffodils and irises blooming and one Hyacinth, which I have always had a hard time with. So many colors have come to greet the spring. Your poem is a garden of beauty and a little piece of springtime.
No dogwoods down here though...

Roses are at their best in June but the daffodils are glorious when they herald spring. Enjoyed the couplet format here Cherrie. All the best.

Gee
What to say apart from jealous:)
This is my kind of poetry, rhyming with good rhythm and as Jacob said with an old fashioned vibe.
Hope you are well Cherrie

So beautifully put. I am now wondering if in the rhythm of nature, how microscopically small does it go, as I stretch and yawn on the sofa, just about ready for days end, as I stretch and yawn, ready for bed, to waken once more in this never ending cycle of being.
I wonder if I will feel more part of that cycle if I read this again tomorrow, as I yawn and stretch awake, into a bright new day

I just love old poetry...and this certainly has that flavor..."nev'"
I like that...and no trees want to blossom alone...they long for company, just like humans.
May we all wake together and blossom.
