Garden

Garden

A Poem by Chin-hooi Ng
"

about childhood

"
I had a garden
small garden
red and pink flowers patted my head
like the waves
colorful birds shaking off dew
jumping from one end of the fence
to the other
there was secret hole
in the magnolia tree
it's where i hid many poems
but the garden
is gone
there was a squirrel
with a tail like fan
it gnaws on pine cone
just like how
i played with the harmonica
when it's happy it dances
in front of the window
under the blue sky
it invited me to its house
on its birthday
we watched the rainbow together
at the door
where it rolled a pine ball
but the garden
is gone
the garden has been gone
did i run away
who abducted it
why do i often dream
of it
holding up a light
in the middle of the night
waiting for me on tiptoes
afraid that I'm
lost.

yes, there is that question we have years later. Did the garden really disappear, or did we run from it?
I love the conversation and watching the rainbow with the squirrel who is probably wondering where his friend went.
