Toadus

Toadus

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

For Toadus, my friend for a couple years, during my childhood!

"

TOADUS

At night, you make alot of noise;

Your back is covered with warts;

You're more fun than any toys,

Because love flows, deep, in toady hearts;

I don't want to capture you;

I want you to, always, be free

To do the things you like to do

And to stop by and visit me;

You hop, bravely, up to my giant shoe

And respond, sweetly, when I pet you;

People ask, "Is this the toad you knew;

"Do you know that he's not sometoad new;"

Of course, I know all your ways

And your path 'round the old oak;

I know where you spend the days;

Oh, my friend, never croak.

I really loved that toad!!

Additionally on May 27, 2010, after my mother's (Susie Q) review. She was in a wheelchair, during my senior year in high school, following a very bad car crash. I would carry gingersnaps in my pocket to school (they don't make too many crumbs) and, since I knew all the dogs that ran lose on my way home from the bus, I would get them to follow me home (they really love gingersnaps.) Sometimes, I would have a gang of near a dozen or more. My mother would watch for me coming down the street with my gang.

This is very cute, so very adorable. I've always been partial to frogs for pets as a child but I never captured them either, I just wanted to play with them outside and then let them go back to their lives. This was very well written and ever so sweet. The only thing I have to critique is "alot" is actually two words and I'm curious it "sometoad" is meant to be one word? Other than that, very good poem!

This little story is precious. I also liked toads and used to play with them. The last line is very clever, I must say.

This is a brilliant write... It is extremely difficult to take such an unconventional subject and do justice to it. But you have done exactly that and with a lot of panache! The flow is great and the words are simple but stunningly effective. "Because love flows deep in toady hearts" is an amazing expression! So unexpected and childlike!

I don't want to capture you;
I want you to, always, be free
To do the things you like to do
And to stop by and visit me;

The above lines are amazingly subtle.... They merge uncommon wisdom with a child's fascination...

This poem is a really intelligent write... Keep penning!

I remember toadus. It amazes me the things you come up with from your childhood. You always loved all the animals, even Pooh duck. LOL Even the ones you got to follow you home from school when I had to spend time in a wheel chair, just to make me smile. Thanks for the memories!
