Kissing Mickey Mouse

We have all seen the evidence of this cruelty to toddlers, whom aren't able to speak for themselves.  Pictures of these young  crying, screaming children, being forced to kiss Mickey Mouse.  And, the heart breaking frowns on their little faces being forced to walk about, in the hot Florida or California sunshine, all day long wearing a smoldering, black tam with mouse ears.

However, this crime isn't limited to giant mice and mouse-eared hats; it goes much further.  Images of frightened little ones petting animals they don't want to touch, being forced to sit on a fat stranger's lap known as Santa, being confronted by goofy looking clowns, being surrounded by costume wearing maniacs and scary beasts.

We as adults are frightening our children, all for the sake of a picture that should make us ashamed, not happy.

We are creating grown-ups having phobias that they can't understand themselves.  Not liking or being afraid of clowns.  A fear of one or many animals.  Not liking toppers of any kind.  A fear of masks or costumes.  Where do you think this comes from?!  Being forced to kiss a huge rodent in the blazing sunlight, while wearing a stupid looking hat!!

Does this image say "happiness" to you?!

When they cry, there is a reason. Listen!

This in no way is meant to reflect any feelings against Disney, because it is wonderful for children. Walt Disney was an American icon, who lived for the "happiness" of our children. This is meant to reflect my feelings against parents, whom do this to their children.

I believe children must be older to enjoy the large entertainment parks. The parks are too big and small kids need to relax. Older kids are fine. They know when to drink and eat. We hope. I agree with the poem.

I am trying to remember but I don't think I have any pictures like the ones you describe so I guess I'm safe on this one. LOL

This is a really good story highlighting an important point. Growing up I was never scared of santa claus, or clowns( ok, maybe a little bit lol ). It's wrong of parents to force their kids to do something that obviously scares them. Like with the example of santa at the mall, I think parents make their kids sit with him just for the sake of a picture.

Great story :]

wow. this is DEFINITLY why Disney is most certianly NOT the happiest place on Earth. I went to Disney a few years back, and there were screaming todlers everywhere! Parents shouldn't take their kids to Disney until their like, seven or maybe even eight.

As parents we shouldn't force our kids to do something like that! I can say for myself that I dont like people in costumes and I'm a grown up!! lol I dont force my kids to like things that might scare them. I dont want to make the fearful but always peaceful! : )

(laughing) When my daughter was a wee child she loved pictures of horses or to see one in a pasture...soooo dad got the bright idea that she might like to sit on a small pony at the county fair if I held her while the pony walked around a small pivot inside an enclosure. WRONG! She screamed bloody murder and nearly frightened that poor pony to death! Daddy had to remove her from the pony post haste! But the ride owner was very nice and refunded my dollar because "she didn't really ride" and I thought that was sweet considering the emotional trauma to the animal...my daughter may be the source of some poor pony's phobia of small children. lol

Children truly see the world so differently than adults. For them Santa is just a strange man whom reminds them of that "stranger" talk we have given our children at some point in life. Many times there is no greater ability than a child's when they object to something.

Oh - This is so true - Seen this many, many times. Kids will let you know when its time to sit on Santa s Lap.

Well said Christina

You make many valid points in this poem. Well done. I agree with the fact that parents shouldn't force something onto their children that don't want to partake in such an activity. And good illustration of the poem with the Santa picture. Parents make their children sit on his lap for a picture to smile and look back on when they are older, but who would want to smile and celebrate such good memories when you have a picture like that? Overall, excellent write.
