Graveyard

Graveyard

A Poem by Claire Lorraine

There is a graveyard inside of me

Broken dreams

Devastated hopes

Murdered love

Reckless hate rampaging in my soul

Shame has crowned himself master

Contempt sits beside him on the throne

Bitterness follows anger

Disgust hankers after despair

All life is gone

Pallid death reigns

Love despised

Longing discarded

Remnants of the broken pieces of my heart

Lay scattered on the battlefield

And I stand weakened

Brandishing a sword up to the hilt in blood

A dark chasm where my heart once was

Each time it threatens to reemerge

I slice my breast until

I have aborted the foundling hope

For I cannot withstand her shrill cries of starvation

I have nothing to feed her with

wow this is a formidable write. All of the shattering we do to a heart that only desires to beat. Well penned.

Thank you Jacob for the feedback!
Remnants of the broken pieces of my heart
Lay scattered on the battlefield
And I stand weakened

I could feel the pain and emotion in your words. Dark and powerful - and the last few lines
I have aborted the foundling hope
For I cannot withstand her shrill cries of starvation
I have nothing to feed her with

absolutely pull at my heartsrings..
