Runaways

Runaways

A Poem by Indoor Downpours

Get out of this town
It's as bleak as the day it wandered to your door
You can settle your head and your heart
On these painted yellow roads
And don't forget to listen to the wind blow
As you roll down your window
She speaks wisdom in your ears
She's as wayward as the depths of your soul
Don't pray for the sky to fall down
Don't wait for the world to cave in
As the years go by, you might forget to live your life
Heaven knows you've gotta find a home.
You won't find any shelter in the twinkling city lights
You won't see a single star when your looking up at night
And the busy suits on Broad Street won't take the time to show you around
All you need on the rainiest days is someone to catch your clouds
You've gotta find someplace better to lay down
The Peach State won't do it anymore
You won't find any solace in a town where you're forced
To watch your friend's children grow old.
I'm not speaking of a life on the road
But that life could make your spine stand up tall
A place where the wind blows and the trees whisper quietly
Is all you would need after all
So don't pray for the sky to fall.
