Bogdonavitch

Bogdonavitch

A Poem by Judas Hammer
"

Standing on top of Bogdonavitch park in San Pedro wishing I could escape.....

"

Bogdonavitch

I stood at the top

Only the Sun was higher

There were a few scattered souls,

Milling about

But my main companion was emptiness

The sea surrounded me

The harbor to the left

The Pacific to the right

The Sunbeams my spotlight

For I feel like a thespian, in a one man tragedy

I stretch my arms out wide,

To touch the wind

Hoping maybe I could fly

Maybe, I could have hugged a cloud and

Said hi to Jesus

I dropped my head again,

Peering at the LA harbor

The cranes didn’t know my existence

The harbor seemed like a wide, vast moat

Maybe-if I get a running start

I could have jumped my way to freedom.

You captured the longing to escape perfectly here. Very powerful emotions were captured in this piece and it is impossible to not be affected. Amazing write

I think we all have wanted to just lift off and leave behind our woes or the things that keep us pinned to the ground. At least in this one the spirit rose to touch the clouds and the mind flew to touch the sun and the mind imagined freedom from a simple action as jumping.

I like it, sometimes the higher we climb all it does is give us a better view of our walls.

I like this. I like the fact that it's not in rhyme & time. It did leave me with a sad feeling.

This is soooo different from anything I've ever read before, where a real setting is used but the subject matter isn't really about the setting, even though it's included. Amazing job, I loved the description "my main companion was emptiness"--so unnerving, for me at least.
Fantastic ending, as well :)

I wish I could see the Pacific ocean one more time. Best days of my life was on the Monterey coastline. I like this poem. I use to climb the rocks and watch the world go by. Freedom is good word. Hard to know when the walls are closing in. I like the ending to the excellent poem.
