A Society Of Lies

A Society Of Lies

A Poem by Elizabeth Fiske

I try to see the better side
By writing all these words and rhymes,
By bleeding on paper,
By leaving my heart an open crater,
But there is no better side
To a society of lies.

Society captivates my soul,
How all these hearts have paid the toll
To live in misery,
To feel as if they own some liberty
To express the joys of life.

I think we need a sudden strife:
Fight fire with fire,
Drown our acidic tears,
And roll in the ashes of our desires.

I think we have to die inside,
To realize
That we need to change,
To have the strength
To be come better than ourself.

It's an annoyance.
We can't be so ignorant
Thinking,
"I'm perfect the way I am!"
For we are never perfect.
In a world of the unique,
 The free,
Perfect is non-existent.
We're born with flaws.
We're born with claws
To fight ourselves.
We must break this society
That tells us to value the bullet shells
Used to kill ourselves.

So many think wrong,
Our claws and flaws don't make us strong.
It's our
Love,
Determination,
Daring to be different
That makes us strong...
That makes us...
Perfect
