My Fear

My Fear

A Poem by Dylan Burch
"

I poem I wrote for a school assignment, think it turned out pretty well.

"
Standing, trembling,
Shaking in fear.
Not on the outside, but deep within.

Uncertainty, insecurity,
Both factors plaguing my mind and being.

While I'd defend my accomplices,
Like a savage wolf with her pups,
I cower to something,
Though my greatest fear is not of anything materialized.

Myself in the eyes of others,
Is anything but myself,
But rather a mask,
A costume,
To hide my true self.

I can't open,
Like a door,
Slammed shut and locked tight.
The world not knowing the secrecy that is hidden within.

The door is locked,
Unseeable by the world,
Until perhaps I find the key,
My true courage,
To unlock and release my self

In this aspect,
I finally see,
The most courageous of men,
Could be as fearful and lost as me.
