Nemesis

Nemesis

A Poem by Vertigo Cat1111
"

Sometimes the person you should hate the most turns out to be the most lovable.

"
I may be a dandelion
And you're a rose.

I'm a weed
But every rose has its thorns.

I count my days.
I lose my aching breath.
I wonder what would happen if I told any one
I wanted to turn the pages this way

Keep your head down
And don't look up when I'm around

I feel the shame under the gaze of everyone
I know I'm flying into the sun
But I just wanted to feel something other than numb
Because I don't think I belong with the heroes
Or the renegades
I think what I want is you, the rose with the sharpest thorns.

I'm sorry.
I should say I'm sorry.
But I don't feel sorry.
So I'm not sorry

Because I don't want to just coexist with you, my nemesis
There's a spark between us, even if others think it's rough

I thought I made myself hate you
But it was all pretend
This is the way my heart needs to mend
I thought it through.

I'm starting to hate hating you.

It's pyschopathic
And magnetic
I can't take it
I won't keep it in the attic
I know it's magic
Let's go wreak havoc

And I'm not sorry.

i love this. the concept of loving someone who should be your enemy is so complicated but you described it perfectly. i especially loved the metaphors of the rose’s thorns, signifying both the beauty and deadliness of the person— but you cant help loving them. great job!

Yup indeed it is fun and the protagonist spews forth their thinking down each stanza feeling uncertain yet emboldened, feeling uncertainty yet liberation. Nicely penned in a flowing freeverse.

The thought is amazing! I think it's great that someone tried to show the idea of hate slowly turning into love.
