Happy?

Happy?

A Poem by Vertigo Cat1111
"

There's happiness we want but don't believe we'll gain- but it's real and it's out there.

"
Happy
Why am I so happy?
What did I do to deserve you?
I guess I always knew
That there was something new
And yet old
And I dreamed
And schemed
Of ways to get ahold of it
Some days I wanted to quit
Then one day I saw you
And this green fire was relit
It's a past life memory
Am I blessed with bliss?
Since I met you
I've actually been...
happy.
My heart's racing because I never get sick of you
I don't have to be sorry
I guess I'm actually for real this time, I'm not sad anymore.
I was lost, staring out into the rain and wind
Waiting to start again
With the golden window
Decades ago
Who would've known?
I could be happy
If the rotary dial rings
To heal my heart
This is where it barely starts

Inspired by Gabbie Hanna's song 'Happy'. If you don't know her, please check her out! She's an absolute genius that gets hate for nothing, and she deserves the support. Her new poetry book came out too, and if you're a fan of poetry, check it out. It's amazing.

It's good to read about happiness, because these days it is in short supply. Relationships can make you happy and sad. A new relationship can set you on fire. Can make life really worthwhile. I certainly picked up on this in these lines. Definitely worth waiting for. Thank you Colacat.

This was very cute, everyone strives to be happy and it's different for everyone and I felt like this poem talked about the journey to try and find it.

I love the way, in your poem, it seems to gradually dawn on this narrator that this is a good thing, possibly a steady thing that she can depend on & celebrate. I think this "dawning" (& the way you show it is well-done) is so universal, as far as letting go of our fear of being wrong or being hurt, etc. The thing I love the most about your poem is that this attraction is not based on anything physical or material or stated in terms of social norms like dating or seduction. It's all about the way another person makes you feel. That's so precious to me. I hate hearing "love" described in terms of everything EXCEPT the way a person makes you feel. You capture this very strongly, too (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wonderfully explained and expressed. I know of that elusive happiness you write of. The closer one gets to it the more scared they are to touch it, perhaps feeling it won't work. Excellent write. Tyfs

Happy is rare these days...and I grew up with rotary dial phones...
and no such things as answering machines...just like love gets lost into a memory...messages do too. but back them we had no such thing.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy people seem to enjoy this one and it makes them happy. (:
Happiness is elusive and yet it sometimes so obviously lies in sharing our life with the special someone who makes life complete for us in more ways than one. They are our soul mates and sometimes we wait an entire lifetime to meet them and begin life afresh as you wrote here. I sense you have a lot of love to give and this poem is very reflecting of that. Its awesome when one can articulate ones feelings as well as you always do Colacat!

This was a very happy read for me! You're welcome Colacat!
From your reviews and responses i can tell you are one joyously happy person who embraces all things positive and spreads cheer wherever you go, and this poem is just a reflection of my own perceptions. Happiness is a wonderful emotion and unexpected happiness can just leave us floating on a cloud, especially when that happiness is evoked by the love and friendship of another. It's a very special feeling to have and your words here sum up that emotion extremely well. Keep sharing the smiles and your always energetic words. 💛
