Overachiever Overlooked

For everyone who works endlessly hard, but is never quite in the spotlight, always waiting. It's a bitter sting many writers understand when there's easier to digest media, like movies, video games.

Can we get a round of applause 

For the overachiever overlooked?

All that waiting and those chances I should've took?

Or is the grammatical way to say it,

'taken'?

What does it matter? No one's gonna read it

I'm forever waiting

For some recognition

For some glory

It's my mission

Maybe I should stop waiting for permission

But even if I cross the line

Will the spotlights dart over to me and shine

Ever be mine?

Whatever 

It doesn't matter

It's fine and I'm fine

I won't complain

I won't whine

But before I die

Can someone help me and at least try?

Put your hands together 

Read this book

I've spent 7 years on it

So get hooked

And can we hear a round of applause

For the overachiever overlooked?

Author's Note

A feeling I've been trying to put into words for a long time now. I'm sure many people can relate to this, but I promise, one day you'll get your big break, just keep working, and don't ever give up. I've given up before, and don't EVER do it to yourself! It's no good, trust me.

You have expressed your thoughts and feelings here very well indeed and it is clear that you are both articulate and not unrealistic in your expectations ... this craft of ours may not make us rich .. but in my book, it should be fun and give others a little pleasure along the way ..

Your message is perfectly balanced between accepting that we probably won't become writing stars & the irresistible hope that it still might happen. To keep our sanity, we must stay balanced there becuz we want to be hopeful without getting desperate or spiteful. I look at friends who told me I should write a book & then they do not even acknowledge when I do . . . you can't let yourself be spiteful about it. Nobody can appreciate my writing journey the way I do, so that's where I go for my sense of fulfillment! Hi! No, not yet. I do need to try pretty soon, but it's a very nerve-wracking thing, but it really is my dream! I haven't quite hired anyone, but plan to do my best research into finding a good publisher!

:) i feel you Colacat! tho not because i have the itch for fame nor acclaim .. it is no fun to express one's passion .. devote countless hours it must take to complete a book; and get no recognition for it .. here at the Cafe' i try to keep up with as many writers as i can, giving myself limited time to do it ..so committing to reading longer works and books is costly ;) but i will check yours out at the very least no that i know you have written one .. i presume it is posted here. ..i like the honesty in this poem ... you did a great job of showing me the frustrations and voices of failure .. poets after all are for the most part sensitive souls .. peace and joy!

I think as writer who pour their souls into their work; it hard when people don’t notice or appropriate the work that went in to each an every chapter page sentence or words. This poem conveys that thought with all the emotion we feel when it is overlooked

You portrayed a very relatable subject here with profound grief and timely. Yes, when we write we want our work get some recognition as we put so much hard work in it and writing a book is not a matter of joke. But nowadays everybody who were not in this field
seems to bear a callous attitude towards this forum and it hurts, really really hurts! I can feel this frustration... You wrote a powerful thing here
