‘Eager to please, ready to fight, why do I go to extremes?‘ Billy Joel

My teeth feel like chalk
Down the pumpkin neighborhood I walk
The bet is off
With your highway cough
I hope when it falls
I catch the message from
The banister and the stars
I would give you the world
But this one’s too mean
So I’d rather destroy it
We can’t stay here
Midnight to morning
The cold is so still and so boring
Strawberry for nostalgia’s sake
I haven’t seen you since the mind numbing early earthquake
When I’m around
Everyone’s distracted by the dog
And I’m appalled by the sign
You’re like a song I’d cry to
I guess that’s what all this was for
I’m sick and twisted
It’s just the way it is
I’m having a bad trip
We’re all just having a bad trip
"You can't please everyone so you got to please yourself." Garden Party by Ricky Nelson
In the same artery, you can't save everyone or even every relationship. You certainly can't save the world. What you can save, and it's most salvageable, is your sanity, your moral compass and your dignity. I remember a movie where the actors were trying to save the world and one of the protagonists says something like, "Saving the world is too big for me. I'm just trying to save my wife and child." We do what we can, the best we can starting with ourselves and those closest to our hearts; that's the center of our responsibility. Being a decent human being is something we can all work every day at. Taking care of those we love without forgetting the bigger picture is part of that too. But if everyone took responsibility for their own actions and tried to make the world better just for a few people around them, the world would be a much better, brighter and happier place. I enjoyed your poem. God bless you and Happy Resurrection Day.

the world we are living in is "mean"; bored and "pissed off", it seems like you have to move on, perhaps in many ways; there has been much devastation where you are....There is nothing to live for here... you're gone down some highway... "Even your songs I would cry to"..."I'm just having a bad trip" ( in what way?)
Seems like everything is going wrong here.... it's really time to move on!!!
Well done!
Best, B

Thank you so, so much! I appreciate the wonderful review so much. It’s always appreciated (:
Are we speaking about the tooth fairy here? :> it seems You are his fairy of any kind~ again, your poetry has the rhythm and beat of a song written in a personal way that the reader will definitely feels a songwriter is there speaking of her varied journeys. the last verse shows is loud and clear, and yes my dear we all have our "trips" sometimes hard, sometimes painful... but always remember "the best yet to come". all the best for You sweet lovely one ❤️

Thank you so much for the extreme kindness- it’s so much appreciated. Thank you again. (:
I love banisters...like relics or a relic term.
The third stanza speaks such truth...."give you the world/ but this one's too mean?
Yes, we feel we would rather destroy it...
it is getting worse, and yes, we are all having a bad trip...
all of us.
I am surprised there not more comments on this piece...I think it speaks for so many of us.
I would find the dog a good distraction.
my cat is for me...her world is more fun than mine.
