Pete

Pete

A Poem by Cole Hayley

Pete

The man in the big black

Alberta-cladded truck

Is fuccking my eardrums

With semi-shittty Metallica

            - Nothing Else Matters

Yeah, it does.

Pete is doing well for himself

He bought Sundance, he sent

His son to France, and the

Oyster house has quite a buzz

He brought Rod Stewart to town

And that caused a lot of fuss

I can remember, though

When he took Brent and I swimming

Doing a hundred and fifty on the

Outer Ring Road

So we could catch the Aquarenia before close

But that was before I lost a best friend on it,

And another guy that I know

In a good way, this poem has a real anticlimactic feel to it. It doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to stimulate emotions or convey some sort of message. It seems to exist for itself and the feelings and emotions i get from it don't hit me until after I finish reading it. This poem is rather unassuming and down to earth. I really liked it. It reminded me of reading the prose of David Foster Wallace, fragmented and subdued until you realize what you've just read. DFW is one of my all time favorites:)

Really loved this reference and follow up:

With semi-shittty Metallica
- Nothing Else Matters

Yeah, it does.
To me it represents a separation from the commercialism and mainstream characteristics of Metallica and the more isolated and down to earth nature of the speaker.

This was exceptional!
