Ode

Ode

A Poem by Cole Hayley

We found a homestead
In wool hats and formed
A hearth despite warning
Made half a heart despite
Warming, well we're hearty
And we were chiseled out of
The rock at birth, the heavy
Acceptance of bad weather
Always and clouds so tight
With grey that everything
Appears a tenth of
a second delayed
Oh Newfoundland,

And to love here is to love in
Isolation, where everyone knows
Everyone and the Narrows live
Up to their name, that rustic
Echo chamber, you can't turn
yer ear away

I heard she's doing well
Better in fact
