I'm a G

I'm a G

A Poem by Colette
"

death and disasters

"

I kept it legal
but the po’po’
kept it unjust
patted me down
felt me up
threatened me
arrested me
lied
like men in suits, and
men in the nude do

Ever have a blade to your neck?
ice pick in your side?
nails and needles up your arms?

Watch a knife go in your boyfriend’s gut?
slept with a gun under your pillow?
seen someone who took a bullet to their head?

Ever slept in a car?
in the streets?
in the winter?

In my arduous life I’ve witnessed death
heard it approaching
felt their cold flesh and a chill on my own

With each new scene
the flashbacks of prior tragedies spring forward
I can’t mute the sounds, or halt the images
in my filmstrip memory

Like a veteran, I’m ill equipped
to repress the agony of defeat
or, to celebrate a victory

I’m crippled
but no one can see it
my thin skin turns thick when pressure cooked

I’m boiling over with tales
of damaged lives
lives saved
lives that are no longer

What can I do?
go bet on a thoroughbred horse?
attempt to blend with the white stallions?

I’ll never have the American dream
I’ll be forced to eat lemon meringue
pie out of a plastic cup

I’ll cry when I listen to the woman
playing piano in the Great Hall
of the Cancer Center

These moments are all I have, really
to remind me I am not a ghost, yet

Mace in the purse
switchblade in the pocket
jumped twice
saved thrice

I am Cat Woman
living all 9 lives
I’m a G
my daddy’s a survivor of WWII
I am number three

You can’t tell
from my tan lines
where I’ve been
but look into my eyes
and you might see

where I’m going

Cole, loved this piece, your work never ceases to amaze me, the sheer depth alone
is an admirable quality to ponder, i could feel myself pulled in by the passionate force
of reasoning, as each delving pondering aspect pronounced itself as a main beam
thought supporting the structure of the writing, i could contemplate many analogies,
I'm a G" the title reflects the artist's eyes, as being the window to the soul, the way
your words mirror the heart, the free flow form encapsulates you knack for precision,
the meaning is touching, focusing on situations in life that shape reality at its core,
in tragedy, as the metaphorical creativeness leaves the reader in an ocean of imagery,
while the form defines your vivid, expressive, eloquent thoughts, beautifully done, mike

Worth repeated reads this. Speaks of life and its many "injustices". No fair trial here huh? If given the time it deserves..lots of depth to dig into here.
