Don’t look back!

Don’t look back!

By Stanley Collymore

Just think for a moment or two, and if you can truthfully

remember the answer to the question which is about

to be put to you, openly and honestly say so. How

many times have you been advisedly informed

by friends, family members, teachers, neighbours and

even total strangers not to look back on your life,

for the past they assuredly claim is simply that,

has gone forever, and won’t ever be coming

back again. But is such advice as reliably

good as allegedly it calmingly suggests?

Or is it simply a concerted mechanism advocated

by those bidding this vindication to hopefully

persuade you to move on from what they

anxiously presume is the damagingly

psychological prospect of yourself

quite probably and ineffectually

clinging to what they observe

as erstwhile situations very

closely associated with

their bothersome and

inapt associations.

A possibility doubtlessly! But to quite seriously

jettison your entire past, whether purposely,

inadvertently or at the earnest request or

suggestion of others, just to avoid the

probability either of you  accommodating

elements of your past history however

contentious these might be is quite

frankly well-intentioned but ill-

advised stupidity. And if it’s

done because of your own

free volition is patently

unequivocal insanity!

Author’s Comments:

Consciously distorting your own past in order to hopefully and advantageously tailor it to suit your distinctly perceived notions in relation to your current and spurious requirements of self-aggrandizement. Or, worse still, to falsely and dishonestly deny and even calculatedly attempt to permanently eradicate elements of that past because of the social inconvenience otherwise that their revelation might occasion for you in possibly hindering your acceptance into a personally preferred section of society that you earnestly and eagerly would like to belong to, while humanly understandable in some given circumstances is nevertheless no concrete basis that you won’t ultimately be found out, embarrassingly exposed and ruthlessly dismissed as the lying fraudster that you evidently are.

So wouldn’t it be far better, at all times, to be openly honest and frank with yourself as well as those closest and dearest to you, and through your evidently sincere efforts and committed atonement for anything you have seriously or unwarrantedly done wrong " and instead of hiding these away " truthfully show those who do matter in your life precisely who and what you really are; instead of trying to please everyone, patently letting yourself down and, moreover, abysmally failing in the process of doing so.

A lesson in life that can only be successfully attained by first acknowledging and then positively, if needs be, transforming the real you, and significantly for the better.

This was pretty fun to read, both in language used and physical arrangement.

And yes, I've been given this advice.

Never seemed to work out.
