They do exist...

Our Pyramids
A Poem by Colton Warr

Carefully tread forth, if only to see
That they will do anything to ensure you do not flee
Why, they would even make it seem as though you are free
Of course, that's exactly how they want it to be

Carefully tread forth, if only to hear
As time passes, the chants are becoming more clear
Isn't it funny? You are told what to fear
What choice is truly yours, you silly puppeteer

In a nation that claims equality, we sure do like to divide
Every four years we are made to choose a side
But in how many years will our children have to hide?
From a weapon that leaves everything it touches fried

And how many years will it take to reattain our democracy?
Today's higher government can be seen as an hypocrisy
Wait, what government? The establishment has formed into a bureaucracy
Perhaps an island is better suit, where one can create a theocracy

Carefully tread forth, if only to feel
The mountain of debt dumped upon us, oh what a deal
How much harder can we make it for a human being to get a meal?
Perhaps they won't be stopped until this generations children squeal

Carefully tread forth, if only to taste
Say, Is there any other Forrest or reef we can dump our waste?
Any other ethnicity that we can mistreat and erase?
The foundation of God has even been defaced

College is a program to prepare you for the machine
What cog will you be? What will be your routine?
90 percent of our news seems to be smokescreen
And let's be honest, we ignored a city whose water was unclean

So don't be free or spontaneous,
But continue to kill yourself for that scholarship
And continue to act "sane" while living in this craziness
By all means, a government doesn't need patriots

An amazing summary of all the things that I have not been able to put to words. Fantastic job, and I must admit that I am a sucker for good rhymes!

Powerful and honest words my friend.
"So don't be free or spontaneous,
But continue to kill yourself for that scholarship
And continue to act "sane" while living in this craziness
By all means, a government doesn't need patriots"
The above lines are true and your many strong statement I agree with. Today world is on dangerous edge. We will fall or we will rise in the USA. hard to say where? Thank you Colton for sharing your amazing words and thoughts.

You touch so many issues written in such a way to give me the sensation of asking 'why'. I thoroughly enjoyed this, good vibes!

Colton, Our little slice of the world has serious problems and your treatise outlines them masterfully. Hopefully one day soon you can write a follow-up with joy, detailing the solutions that were attained. With the election approaching this piece is so apropos. Well done! take care...dan

Critique: (the chants are becoming more clear) This is a tough one because it should be "clearer" but "more clear" sounds so right, I wouldn't change it calling on poetic licence but wanted to point it out :~)
(can be seen as an hypocrisy) as a hypocrisy

Review: Nice word usage and smartly done, you have captured the uncertainty of the political state of the union as well as the public's feelings of frustration with it. Interesting stanza the next to last, and the only thing I question. The first three lines are bold and all-encompassing then you individualise the last line of the stanza focusing on one thing taking a lot of the impact out of that stanza. Well done my friend I give it five out of five Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Very thought provoking! I loved the rhyming and the idea and whole topic. It's a more serious piece but a very well designed and very well thought out. I wish more people would think like you!

this made me chuckle (in a good way). Glad to know someone out there sees past the fog.

Very well rhymed. As for our government and the 4 years, I wish every one who votes would write in the candidate of their own choice and let the counters across the nation figure out who won. I would put in Jesus, He is this countries only hope. Valentine

The delectable thought that we must devour our feelings to release those thoughts of imprisonment, how divine, well done, good read.
