Much

Much

A Poem by Corset

The entire world can and does
 change in an instant
everything around you can change in an instant
one raw move and the cities, the homes, the faces
the friends you knew could be gone.

A thought like that keeps a girl up at night
he wakes up to talk to her every morning
before she opens her eyes

she pretends to not notice

oh, how the braggarts do fall but
we all live just one day away
from complete disaster
Just one turn of a twisted corner

I think I'll grow a vegetable garden this year
maybe take some canning lessons

Kentucky knows how to grow and can
its sturdy seams
it knows how to make bedding
from the quilted clouds

I find my ignorance is bliss when I'm
being blissfully ignorant
but it can't beat a dead Ox up off the ground
the only thing being more stubborn.

I miss you.
That doesn't change.
much.

What comes across in this poem is how close we all are to a disaster. One day everything can be fine, the next we could be dead. Made me think about Ukraine. It's lonely living on your own. Missing loved ones sucks.

yes it does, thank you for your comments Chris!
in an instant we can be alone....in an instant we could be dead.
We seem to be living on the edge these days....Your poem reminds me of 1962 when I would walk to school and wonder if I would get there...if the missiles would be launched.
Friends gone in an instant...I have had too much of that...too "much" of that.
this powerful piece needs more comments...
just reading is not real feedback for an author....
too much of that going on on this site....is our writing effective? are readers getting something from it?
How do we know?

"who knows what tomorrow brings" did Joe Crocker write that one
The poem is sad for sure but written well! Very relatable too, the world never stops changing. We just have to keep going!

My pleasure!
so much being said in "Much" ... i think your poem covers a gamut of emotion, social commentary and philosophical avenues ... but it's your closing that hits me in the heart ... it's not fun living alone and even less so having to walk through fire without a hand to hold .. i really like this .. i like it because it is understated but kind of screams .. beautiful says i! music choice gives me chills .. poor George Michael :(

Thank you for your wonderful comments.
This poem brings out one more reasons why grass is an unappreciated miracle.
