The Gargoyle

The Gargoyle

A Poem by Cory Scott
"

Short poem about a gargoyle

"
After a millenia I've awakened
High atop a perch overlooking my old city
Once I was worshiped as a preeminent being
Over many years it would appear I've become forsaken
I now gaze upon society not with anger
But pity
Pity for the gits traipsing about
Unable to see the darkness consuming them
Long ago I would have been their savior
Abolishing the dark
Filling the void with light
Alas, men have become too intertwined with sin
Now I only have to offer prayer
I pray that they will once again see
That they will lift their veils of naivety
That they will cleanse their clouded minds
And murky souls
Only then will they again be worthy
Of my empathy
Until that dawn may arise
I shall unfurl my wings
And take to the skies
Watching and waiting on all humanity
With hopeful eyes
