Slicing Carrots

Slicing Carrots

A Poem by CourtniRenee
"

There are things I hope I never understand

"

I don’t know what it’s like to lose a child

but I do know how it feels to see

my mother slicing carrots on our nicked and worn cutting board

only to stop and stare as tears run down

her lined and tired face

when she realizes that it has been twenty years

since she heard his voice.
