Reality's Regrets

Reality's Regrets

A Poem by Adam Crate
"

A soul's journey through a turbulent reality

"
At the center lies a churning apex

The source of reality's regrets

Closer

Closer

Closer still

Hallowed screams inspire chills

Wearily a soul crawls on

In a desperate quest towards rising dawn

Muddy

Muddy

Putty hands

Sinking into shifting sands

Demons screeching

Smelling pride

He leaps into a life to hide

Living

Living

Dying skin

A lifetime just a blink to him

Arriving back in maelstrom time

Sprinting

Now he's lost his mind

Chewing

Chewing

Gnawing greed

Monsters taking what they need

Abandon self and reaching out

Strength overcoming his doubt

Blinding

Blinding

Burning sight

Risking all to join the light

His corpse is now a bloody mess

Spirit rising

Seeking rest

Curled

Curled

Cooing sun

Eternity has just begun

I see this as a person who has passed on and has come to his/her final judgement. Will it be heaven or hell? They think back on their life and relive their sin. Only it seems clear that this person has already passed judgement on their self. Their fate is inevitable. I'm not sure this was your intent, but I quite like it nonetheless. I also found that as I read it faster, rather than breaking it up, it flowed beautifully. Like a sense of urgency and pending doom.
