Gentrification Is Good For Us

Gentrification Is Good For Us

A Poem by Crazy Cat Man
"

A poem inspired by militant black poets who have no sense of humor.

"
Gentrification is good for us
Don't you see
We need diversity
So what
If the white people are moving in
I say welcome
Now lets all have some fun
Don't you see
Gentrification is Martin Luther King's dream
White people are moving to the hood
Because rent is cheap
I don't understand why the militants
Have a problem with this
They are so defiant
They all wanna be the next Malcolm X
I'm sorry but civil rights have passed
You are living in the past
You wish this was the 1960's
You still want to fight for the right to vote
You Black militants are a joke
Why do you try to provoke
Innocent white people?
They are just like me and you
They also want equal rights
So why do you want to fight?
Don't try to divide us
Don't you see that Gentrification is good for us

Second last line says it all, don't try to divide. There is racism and bigotry over here too. I have never seen the point of it to be honest. Hating a race is just too much hard work for me and makes as much sense as hating people with size nine feet. I'd much rather keep my hatred for people who deserve it, like the scumbags you read about in the news all the time, day in, day out. Non integration just keeps racism alive. How are we all meant to get along if we never see both sides of the story?
Powerful piece here, very thought provoking.

Well made point.. we've all, whites and blacks, worked too hard to beat discrimination and yeah, their may be extreme groups on both sides, but all in all, we don't want things to go back to the 60s. Excellent rap.

First, pay no attention to how incredibly white I am in my photo...it was a flash defect...I'm at least one shade of pale darker in real life ;-) You know, I've been saying this *quietly* for such a long time now...there is reverse racism, for lack of a better word, going on here and nobody seems to have a problem with it. It's almost like, well, so? They put up with it for centuries... I'm sorry, what? Some 19 year old militant black man has put up with s**t, thank you very much, yet he gets away with spewing hate speech directed at white people... Imagine for one minute if there was a music television station called WET, or if there was an Ivory Awards...the reason there are not all-white venues anymore is because it's discriminatory... Meh...frustrates me. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I liked it a lot. You said a mouthful...

YES.
Haha. We all need cheap rent, right? We all need to mix together to learn from each other, right? Most people love learning about other cultures! Can't do that if ya never meet.
It is true that white people moving into a traditionally nonwhite neighborhood are not the enemies. That isn't to say that there aren't enemies out there.
I liked this quite a bit. Points well made!
