The Love Seasons

In Spring, we met.
You threw me a smile and just like the flowers,
My heart bloomed and began to sing.

We were like two pigeons in Summer.
You told me you were in love with the way I spoke and the thoughts I had.
We laughed at everything,
And every night, you took me dancing.

But in Fall,
You seemed to be changing with the weather.
I wanted to give you my all
But you refused and said you were a giver, not a taker.

It's okay if you don't love me,
Or if you never loved me.
I just want to know why you made me believe you did.
Why did you make me believe that after God Himself, it was me?
Why did you lie?
You said you would do anything for me.
You said you would protect me.
You said you would marry me.

Men like you are the reason for little girls growing into lonely women.
You are the reason that the most beautiful trees get rid of their most beautiful leaves each season.

In Winter, you wrote your last letter and said goobye.
It seemed as though you could care less about my lonely nights spent crying.
I trusted you.
But you broke my heart.
I lost my only laugh and wasted my time.
You lied, with no good reason.
This is what I get for loving you more,
Each season.

My first French poem.
( I translated it into English for my non French speaking audience. But of course it is more romantic and dramatic in French. Enjoy, merci beaucoup!)

Dear LoveInOctober

It seems to me you are a native speaker of both French and English.

I am a native English speaker but I am fluent to the point of billingual in French, though rust has gathered in more recent times, by failure to turn up on French soil as often as I once did. I lived in France, Paris and Annemasse (near Geneva) at one time, worked in France often and have holidayed there often.

I cannot but admire the ease with which you switch between the languages.

The beauty of art, of the thought, of the loss, of the treachery resides in each.

To my ear both the style of the English and French versions work well.

Were I to express my own view, but maybe it is only that I am a Francophile, the lucidity and the flow of the language in French has the greater draw for me.

I have on here a short poem I wrote in French. It has never had the benefit of a review by a French speaker.

Should you feel you wish, without any obligation of course, and without need to comment, feel free to cast an eye over it if only to find you are not the only person on this site who reads, writes and speaks French, albeit as a second language.

I am charmed by this poem and your dexterity in both languages.

With my kindest reagrds

James

Thank you for sharing and for reading!
I know little French, I read the title as the season of love as to the love season. I'd appreciate it if you'd teach me. I love the poem though.

Thanks for reading! It was very challenging to write. French is tricky so I will try my best!
