Existence

Existence

A Poem by Rose Hagerty
"

I no longer can see what is ahead of me. But I can't look back

"

Are our existence meaningless?

Billions could die

Will die

But does anyone cry?

Lives snuffed out in an instant

We march over their corpses

Clawing our way out.

Kicking and Screaming

Our lungs give out

We choke on our toxic fumes

Our voices drowned out by the others

Their screaming

Our screaming

My screaming

The pounding silence fills my head

I struggle to swim

            Gasping for breath

My limbs give way

Gulping the stinging sea water

And still they climb

While I drown

Clinging on

To a hope

That I won’t sink

Sink so far

That no one can see me

So alone

That I can no longer see the people tearing

Climbing

Drowning

Suffering

And that is when I wish

To give way

And sink

So far

That

I am alone

And that is what I fear the most.
