By the Sea

By the Sea

A Story by Rose Hagerty

The murky water licks my feet, as they sink into the soft, silver sand. My fingers brush the slippery, glassy pebbles as I rummage through a pile of smooth, colourful rocks.
Joyfully, I hold a shard of seaglass up to the sun, absorbed by its sunny glints, its wave smoothed edges, and its emerald glow. I pop it into a small container that I set out at my side and scour the beach hoping to see another piece of seaglass or, if I’m lucky, a seashell.
The waves roar louder. Shouts from farther up the beach tell me to pack up. Grabbing my container, I make my way towards my cousins, as the sounds of the crashing waves ebb away to a gentle hush.
