Through the kitchen window I did see

Two birds high in the sky

Passing each other

As they went on bye

Flying against the wind

 

Twist and twirl

Round and round

In a game of

"Catch me if you can"

Playing with the wind

 

Wings outstretched

Like two gliders

Stationary they hung

Away they sailed

Riding on the wind

 

They returned

From whence they left

Catch me if you can

The games began again

Playing on the wind

You gave me some delightful imagery with your words Wild Rose. I could picture this scene so clearly. Those birds taking nature as it comes, playful in the wind. We on the ground, moaning about it (lol). We can learn much from mother nature. Have a good week-end.

Thank you Christine - was washing up at the time - Suspended it - didn't go for the camera but they were high and just discernible as Peregrines by they shape as the glided away rain clouds moved in to follow

I had to chase a Peregrine out of the garden last week It had gobbled up all of the food for smaller birds & was sitting in a tree waiting to get some warm live food > We did have one pulling a Blackbird apart one day - video came out blurred from the window it had focused on

Nature, it can be so cruel. I would have found that so very difficult when the blackbirds is such a giver of song and delight.

Your lovely poem reminds me of the blessings of sitting on the porch and watching the swallows going around and around---as you say, Playing On The Wind. I especially like the way in which you end each stanza. Kind of reminds me of a child's nursery poem...

Thank you - Yes the swallow also chasing flying midges - Lunch on the wing
Like a 'nursery rhyme' perhaps taken by the mood of the moment _ I came straight in and began to write before it passed from memory

Crows, magpies, pigeons and starlings are the only birds that seem to frequent our neighbourhood.
Must have been a marvellous sight seeing the pair playing together

we get the same + Goldfinch in the garden
Birds of prey are out in the farming and the National Park lakes and Mountians
WE did have Peregrine pulling Blackbird apart in the garden > camera focused on the window glass > Mostly they are hunting > this was a one off to see them playing like that

I should have been washing up but the birds were more interesting
As they gilded off right a dark rain cloud came in from the sea
It was a privelidge to watch
Finished washing up came, sat down and just typed the words before the mood passed over with other mundane activities

We know about winds and thermals > Son has a glider pilots license & takes ATC cadets for flying experience (they fly he just sits and waits)

We see birds of prey around here hovering - swooping killing for food

Washing up abandoned to watch their display - playing with thermals until a dark rain cloud came over > They just spread their wings and glided of stage right

I love the way you use a ton of fanciful imagery, but also you do not abandon your native style of describing things with precision, with an analytical point of view. Thank you Margie I abandoned washing up to watch them It is a rare sight to see two Peregrines flying together from our kitchen window. We do get the odd one hovering and Sea Gulls gliding around
I did a poor quality video of a Blackbird being pulled apart at the far end of the garden (The camera focused on the kitchen widow - sadly).
I have had a video on TV's 'Autumn Watch' program of two Robins fighting for territory; it was during some cold harsh weather we have a favourite spot to put feed out > I put some in two places - they called a truce, one at each feeding station - both remained with us all winter

Now that I'm old & disabled, I spend much more time watching such natural scenes . . . on a grand scale like your peregrines, or on a small scale like my abundant frogs & lizards *smile*

Yes my dear, we get enjoyment from so many things
WE have garden surrounded with hedges where birds can find shelter > and feed them in three different spots

such a pleasant feeling in reading your poem ..Peregrines are acrobatic masters aren't they ..what a treat to catch a glimpse of two of them in their antics ... your poem has a serene haiku kind of sense to it for me...

I was washing up - Stopped to watch - Wish I had my camera close by so I could video them - Too far away to be accurately recgnised but the shape, specially as the rode the wind away was like a Peregrine and the height
