First time out for three months

First time out for three months

A Story by Wild Rose

The first time out for three months

Stay at home I was told “Do Not Mix with People”
That was three months ago " in March

They discovered a person free time in the supermarket " 7.00hrs to 8.00 hrs; in between the NHS hour and normal opening at 8.00

Only the staff refilling the shelves, and they moved away as you approached.

Today was different, I was going to the dentists, alone in an empty street. Open air plenty of space. Empty shops. No other people

One thing in common. The sign on the door

Only one person in the premises at any time please”

Please wait to be escorted to your table” in the small café; where there were only three tables, where previously there had been six; also, only two seats instead of four; However, do they make it pay.

Are the only covering costs and rent?

At the dentists the door was locked, I had to knock on the door for entry, Please sit here, I have some hand gel, can I take your temperature

The dentist and nurse in full protection clothes, waiting seated behind the couch “Please take the seat” mumbled the dentist from behind his mask

The whole experience had been strange, only the buildings were anything like normal, as I once new.

A brand new way of experiencing that is the new normal. The last sentence is spot on as it gives the feeling of the twilight zone.
‘The whole experience had been strange, only the buildings were anything like normal, as I once new.’

Your story reminded me of one of my early dates when I was walking along a lane with a childhood sweetheart on my arm. Perfect! Except it was getting dark and she wanted to return home!

No, but I did find out she wasn't wearing any knickers!
Interesting experience, and very familiar too. I think this is more prose than poetry, but nonetheless it's a common experience during this COVID time. Nice!
