The Words of Age

The Words of Age

A Poem by Mazie

The Words of Age, I heard but never knew;

Their whispers, words, all tangled in a knot,

And mingled with the voice of Youth’s false truths,

Distorting truth and Wisdom’s lenient lot.

The Words of Age, I heard and now do see

Were not the words of aged, downward strife,

But were in fact the coaching of Life’s Cree,

To teach perfection’s not a way of life.

The Words of Age forgive when wrong is done,

For none can say they have no fault to shame;

Nor can they claim their slate’s the purest one,
For Life protests Perfection’s lying name.

We strive for best, and grieve the faults we hide,

But wisdom comes from lessons learned inside.

I especially need to remind myself from time to time that despite our best efforts, we will make mistakes and that is ok. We're not expected to be perfect, but sometimes we feel that pressure. Wisdom comes from experience after all :)

Flows very well with truth and eloquent prose. Wisdom comes too late for some.

I like this one. Its a very core poem, to me, anyways. My tattoo shares a lot with this piece. Its of a nephilim, spawn of angel and demon. We all, each of us, have light and dark within. No one is without both. Learning to balance them and use that dark beneficially rather than malignantly, that is the key. Wisdom dows come from experience, in some cases. Though I'm sad to say that most wisdom these days is simple common sense and the world is lacking greatly in that way. Common sense had become a rarity. Also, its nice to gain wisdom by the observation of others.. as in not making their mistakes. Thats a large part of one of my absolute favorite things, cultural story telling:) its beautiful and interesting. Lastly, i think the last line woukd benefit greatly with two additional syllables. It was a lovely piece and a good reminder. I know you are busy with work but keep sharing. Ill be here to review:)
