Lawn King

Lawn King

A Poem by D Connolly
"

Lizards. Just lizards.

"

His throat puffs up as red as a brick

He sits like a king on top of a stick

He pushes his speckled chest up and down

Challenging all for a chance at the crown

They race and he braces himself for a fight

The girls hurry and scurry in flirtish delight

The battle ensues, and mercy is nil

Jaws lock and they twist in the effort to kill

Victory now, the King reigns on his throne

He decides that he won't be ruling alone

Sweet maiden who hides in bromeliad green

Sees her chance to become the true queen

When come to his side, their tails intertwine

And the rest of the kingdom politely resigns

As the moon wanders out and the night softly falls

The air is filled with their loving calls

'Lawn King'
D.Connolly,
The wild kingdom is seen in the miniature as you weave this captivating tale of the lizard who would be king and he even will have his queen. How cute is that!? So here he is willing to battle for his crown in a physical duel. It feels like a old time story and all he needs is a sword. You played off of the natural world of nature and gave it a winsome twist with the classic feel of a medieval tale. Thanks for this. It was intriguing and inspiring.
Blessings,
Kathy

Love and hate among the lizards, and I thought Jim Morrison was the Lizard King. I liked the fun in this, D. The rhyming scheme was very good and how can you go wrong working in bromeliad. A fun write.

thank-you so much
i love the wordplay in the title. I'm sure Simba would approve (though Disney may sue...)
You made these cold-blooded wee beasties come across like him out of Titanic and Kate Winslet here.
Skilful unique tight rhyming Dani.

Dani, I owe you reviews. Best get that pen going. Kathie
Nice. Maybe it is the fact that I, as a dinosaur (short arms, must have been a dinosaur in a previous life), relate to my distant relatives in this piece, as I wonder to myself...They don't work, pay bills, need insurance.....evolution sucks, I wanna be a dinosaur again :)

Me too! I would like to have camouflage skin. That would be cool.
Hello, D! :)
This was a fun read.
I used to hunt the anoles with water guns when I was a boy. I don't see them as often. I've been seeing these fat brown curly tailed lizards everywhere.
