Without Me

Without Me

A Poem by Sarah Jane

There is a pull in my shoulder
A constant tugging in my teeth
A steady reminder that without me
Reality would be obsolete
Responsibilities have built up
Bearing an invisible string each
Ceaseless in their caution
That I stay within reach
Because without me it would fall,
This fragile world I bear
Obligations resonate within
Despite this stringed ensnare

Eventually, to my knees I fall
Snapping the cords that bite
To my surprise and end demise
The world stands out of spite
"But you need me!" I scream
As it recoils from my skin
Yet, nothing crashes down
Or collapses, as I did
The world goes on spinning
Without a connection to bleed
It mocks the brunt of my burden
Now that I'm free

You have revealed emotion with very good choice of words and exceptional rhythm/rhyme. Great work and thanks for sharing!

The only critique I can give this is that "ensnare" is a verb, and you have it serving as a noun here, which is not correct.....that and the factor of certain lines just on the cusp of being musically iffy are the only aspects that make this poem shy of being tuned to perfection. Well done overall!
