Mediocre Matrimony

Mediocre Matrimony

A Poem by Sarah Jane

The naked space above my left knuckle

Longs for a glinting gold to surround it

With a jewel as white as honeysuckle

That’s perfectly fit for a hypocrite

A day of perfection is all I want

Memories of musical matrimony

To fill a photo album I will flaunt

All while collecting my alimony

Aching again, my bare finger attests

Unity is more than desolation

I will curl my hair and don a new dress

While my heart now longs for liberation

I've learned that even with a new last name

I’m unsatisfactorily the same

This is seriously sad. I hope this is only a write and not a personal situation. I like how this captures how common this is.

To me this reads as a conflict of regret and hope......with a dose of sadness.....but effective statement.

It sounds sort of like modern matrimony for some I suppose. I think it takes the right person to make us feel free and not a prisoner of a relationship.

just a different face to look at,and new perks to learn, but all the same
maybe your prince will ride in and put that ring on your finger
