Life Cycle of a Masochist

Life Cycle of a Masochist

A Poem by Sarah Jane

Obsession, conflicting with reality

Communication with fantasies

Elation from elevated conversation

And confessions of compassion

Satisfaction in a string of numbers

So good, those words wake wistfulness.

Bitterness, words and worlds crumble

Ideas of pleasantries and pleasure

Turn to pressure and paranoia

Lost minutes turn into lost days

Which mean nothing compared to years

Yet, they are counted mercilessly.

Hollow, the beating of a knowing heart

Shutting down before being shut out

Sweeping refuse of these meets

Into the recesses of consciousness

Where the last decade of you is stored

Until a dream sparks an obsession
