Edna

A Poem by Sarah Jane

Gentle hands held out in gesture.
I surrender mine.
Our eyes meet for the last time
Too soon after meeting
Though I see you, grateful
Thankful for a stranger
Who has dammed you to hell
Because forces stronger than us
Deemed you unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
Between the haze of your family
And the softness of your gaze
I am broken.
Beneath the weight of your smile
At the thought of your grandson
You are broken.
But your delicate hands
Forgive me for my part.
