The Woman I Never Met

The Woman I Never Met

A Story by Dan Ryoma
"

"

I walked towards the door as a woman turned. Her eyes meeting mine. They were a light green and I stood so close I could see the crevices of her iris and feel her breath upon my neck. Silence ensued for a moment and the incessant chatter of the bar returned. A friend pulled upon my arm as another pulled upon hers. She smiled as she fleeted into the crowd; her black hair framing her enchantment. Sooner than I could imagine the doors of the bar shut in front of me; leaving me lonely without the woman I never met.

This is excellent for working with what you have. A lot of description in so few words. Definitely a contender.

I remember moments like that many years ago when I was single and longing for a mate. I'd see faces in crowds and think "Maybe she's the one. If only we could meet." You captured that phenomena perfectly.
