Who I Want to Be

Who I Want to Be

A Poem by Lydia Jamison

I wanna be that girl on the magazines,
I wanna be that girl who has everything.
I always thought that's who I wanted to be.

I wanna be the girl that everybody loves,
I wanna have my name known by everyone.
How long's it gonna take for me to be that one?

Hazy noise and flashing lights,
Pretty faces and starry eyes,
Everything you see is a lie.

Screaming fans and music stars,
Expensive clothes and flashy cars,
Do they even know who they really are?

I want everyone to know my name,
I want lots of money and lots of fame.
I just need to forget from where I came.

Once you have everything, the world goes dark,
And you can't remember where you are.
Trying to find happiness is suddenly hard.

Now I'm that girl on the magazines,
Now I'm the girl that has everything,
But I only wish I knew who I really wanted to be.

Lydia Jamison
This was partly inspired by, believe it or not, the song So Yesterday by Hilary Duff. Her music has always been inspirational to me.

Ah! so good. Love how you explore that finding yourself or happiness can't be achieved in what we perceive as perfection. Fantastic write.
