I Wonder Sometimes

I Wonder Sometimes

A Poem by Dani California

I wonder sometimes

About moments online

Strangers showing love

Across the miles

His, hers, yours

And mine

I wonder sometimes

Faceless people I find

Conversations sublime

Words on a screen

Telling stories, secrets

Some that rhyme

I wonder sometimes

While we chat online

Passing hours in time

The joy of friendship

Smiles and laughter

In you I find

I wonder sometimes

Only knowing your mind

If it matters that I find

You’re really someone else

Though you’re still...

So kind

I wonder sometimes

Since we’re passing lonely time

If you’re really a friend of mine

Or just an imaginary companion

I’ve created in my mind

Online

I wonder sometimes

This was inspired by my thought that although we don't always know the person we are communicating with on the other end of cyber space, if the connection is positive, and brings joy.... does it really matter? Should it matter?

Tell me what you think...

I wonder too you have broached a subject we all must think about. I have friends on line i have and never will meet. Some friendships span years and some are new. Some we just click with straiht away andothers the rapport builds gradually.. I wonder if we could meet with net friends face to face would that friendship still stand

Well I ask myself that once before... Can we find good people on the internet that don't want to hurt you. I can't find that answer yet. Any ways.... about your piece! I though you written it in a way I couldn't! You made me think and ask questions. I like that in poems.. You communicated what many can't fully write on and I gave you 5 stars for that. thank you for sharing this piece.. Very crafty lady

Much lov n respect,
Anna

Well, I met my wife online back in 1995 via IRC. We married in 1996 and we're still together and happier than ever. The internet is a great equalizer in many respects. It allows people's minds to meet as well as their inner personalities. We can't or don't always behave the same IRL as the people we are inside.

So my answer to the question you pose is a simple no. It shouldn't matter. I would even go so far as to say the connections we form over the internet (mind to mind) are more real and meaningful than the superficially afflicted relationships we form by physical proximity to someone.

Dani, I really can identify with this and you expressed it so well... I have gained a lot from online friendships... learned about myself, about others and in sharing my thoughts have found common ground with so many that I may never would have in my non virtual world...

well done!

This is sooo true...I wonder myself. There are people on here hiding behind avatars without ANY pictures of themself or a hint of their birth name. This was terrifically written, beautiful job...thought provoking indeed.

this poem is great. i was just talking about this same subject with my girlfriend. it's very sad how pedafiles and all them psycho people ruin it for the rest of the people who really want to be kind hearted people. great work.

These thoughts went through my head when Carrie and I first started talking. Thankfully when we met the bond became even stronger. We're very much in love. :) So I guess sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, just like any other dating "strategy" someone could come up with.

for me, how people act and what they say online is like advice or the law.....

sometimes you listen to it, or you just choose to ignore it.........
you are a magnificent writer!!!if anyone ever said you weren't, then they lied.

Touched us all to really think
of those who come in contact
yet such friendship is created
that itself is all that matters for now
you really struck a chord as
to whether it really is positive
I too ask...does it really mater?
Should it matter...if it brings joy
it really don't really matter for now
my take...yet a beautifully written piece!

I LOVE IT!!! i really do. you put into words what I have been thinking about for a while. sometimes i tend to fall for guys who live further away because of the "unattainable" factor, I want what i can't have, or never will have. But it brings you smiles and joy, but what for? for something intangible? we all need tangibilty, esp if we are in our late 20's and looking for love and marriage one day. why flirt with mystery when it will never be palbable? thanks for sharing......also, sento you a read request for "everything fades away..." it is similar to what you are saying,,,,kena

I'm with you. My life has been feeling lonely lately and I feel that my only friends are the ones I meet here in the cafe. When I check my emails and there is nothing from writerscafe, I ask that same questions, is this a friend or just someone to pass the lonely time. Well written and hear felt Dani, thanks for sharing, friend.
