On Regret

On Regret

A Poem by Danica van Zyl

You’re filled with regret. Filled with nights spent alone pondering over unsent messages and words kept silent. All those missed opportunities are moments you wish you had. You wish you said the words that are still on the tip of your tongue, the kisses that are still lingering in your fantasies and the text messages still saved as drafts on your phone.

But you don’t send them, you don’t tell them, you don’t kiss them because your phone is dead, your lips are chapped and your voice is hoarse from all the drinking.
