Bitter Berries

Bitter Berries

A Poem by DannyLynne Riley

You fed me bitter berries

winter berries from the mound

the last thing I remember

before you kissed my swollen mouth

a pale sky and red stained lips

spinning all around

as I grasped at grassy Lords

and searched for stable ground

what is this curse

you have pierced me with?

the juice of bitter berries

on blood stained lips?

and how will I ever

find my way out now?

I cant read your maps

Ive long forgotten how

I will parish here

on this harsh

and frozen ground

amidst the unsettling sound

of falling bitter berries

as they scatter on the ground
