The Girl with Autumn in Her Eyes

The Girl with Autumn in Her Eyes

A Poem by DannyLynne Riley

She wraps herself

in threads of sadness

and everyone thinks

they must free her of this madness

...that somehow

she is tangled within

the heartbreak

of a self made

prison

Foolish ones

will bid for her love

but what they cant see

is that she is exactly

as she wants to be

those melancholy strings

are not the constricted bindings

of one hopelessly entwined

please don't undermine

the designs

of a broken mind

for just as sticks and spit

serve

in the dwellings

of a clear sailing

bird

those mahogany threads

of her elegant lament

are firmly pressed

into wistful nests

decorated

with a burgundy kiss

and a controversy

hidden

within

a brilliant shade

of complexity

like the Ruby gems

she polishes on the daily

all the while singing

"fool you cant save me"

and its not his fault

His love is but a drop

a single water bead

compared to the ocean

 that she needs

and he hovers there

somewhere

between a hopeful breath

and a heavy sigh

what a tragic mistake

for he cant quite shake

the girl with Autumn in her eyes

This is so beautiful! It has a very strong beginning. Sometimes, we assume someone is hurting, when in reality, they are exactly as they want to be. You kept me reading until the very end. This poem has amazing imagery, and beautiful depth of feeling. This is a truly wonderful poem!
