Look Away

Look Away

A Poem by Darian Justine

Our eyes connect for a split second
as the greatest feeling washes over me
and in an instant you look away
leaving darkness in your wake

I remember how it felt with your arms around me
and when you planted sweet kisses on my head
your laughter filling my ear when you joked around
but all of those memories are now washed away

now all you are is old memories
of a day spent laying lazily on your couch
of everything we did that day
that now you seem to want to deny

maybe eventually I'll be able to let go
but for now you can keep carrying on your lies
I'm not the one that is hiding the truth
but I can tell when you look away
