There's a man who lives in the shadows
Seeking out thoughts he can twist
He enjoys abruptly taking what matters
His hand holds the blade to your wrist

Soft gray eyes beneath a blanket of black
Don't be fooled by his innocent demeanor
If you turn around he'll have a knife at your back
Before you know it depression is your leader

He's the inspiration for those scars on your arms
They remind you of what you have become
Saddness always returns
Making you lifeless and numb

He is the enemy within
Waging his war against happiness
Prepare to fight or he will win
Save yourself from his madness

I thought viewing depression as a human is an interesting viewpoint to write about. Thank your for reading!

I have read through a few of your poems, but to me this one really stands out. I can surely relate, and this certainly captures what it feels like to be taken over by depression. Thank you for sharing, it was beautiful.

Depression is an interesting part, when I look behind all those empty bottle of pills. At the same time, when you come out of it, you have tonnes of writing material.

That penultimate stanza is certainly something. Listen to No Substitute by Rachel Goswell; you may dig that.

Thank you. I will look it up right now:)
I really like this. A great idea humanizing what is a difficult topic to discuss, let alone understand. Out of interest, why have you made depression male?

It's so real.

You've done an excellent job at giving this monster a human body.

Now I can't get the image out of my head..
