The Beginning

The Beginning

A Poem by Darryl Davis

A worn pad,
an overpriced disposable pen,
several barely conscious gestures,
a deep exhale and you were born.

Like a trout pulled from a stream,
you stared back, the water froze
and you croaked,

“Now what?”
