The Scourge

The Scourge

A Poem by Moving Mass
"

Part three

"
How much pain there is when pain not needed still exists!
You try to climb a stairway to the sun, and expect Icarus to give you directions.
Why do you think it is so difficult to hold one's own against the world?
Because the world doesn't work uphill.
The world is a cold dark place.
The strongest ones here are the flies.
How do you embrace death so easily? Tell me your secret.
I never embraced it, but everyone knew this day would come.
Even you.
That is true. Irrelevant, but true. Do you really think you can do anything now?
Yes.
What?
Die.
Are you stupid?
Why do I even bother dragging this conversation out any further?
You've obviously gone insane from fear.
I'm not insane.
My purpose is clear.
Purpose. You seem to be the expert on purpose. Tell me, what is my purpose?
...
Fine, what is the purpose of your suffering then?
...
Why so shy? Don't worry, you will soon join your friends.
Then you will have nothing to fear, you disgusting blight!
...
Death is here, vermin. Say hello.
...You killed my friends and exterminated my kind.
Like insects.
Correct.
Like roaches!
Correct.
...It is impossible then for you to extinguish us.
How?
...because we are locusts...
...and you cannot stop the swarm.
