The Opotamus

The Opotamus

A Poem by Dave Brown

The Opotamus

Hippy the Opotamus who bulged at the seams

Who was slim, only in his wildest dreams

Wanted to play ball for the Yankees it seems

But couldn’t make even the minor league teams

He went on a crash diet to lose 1000 pounds

Seems pretty difficult, I know how it sounds

Drinking black coffee and just eating the grounds

In one month, he’d only lost fifty pounds

Then selling both ears and one side of beef

Including his rib cage, causing just minor grief

Two toes and down there, where he put a fig leaf

His huge weight still had him, in disbelief

Hippy’s decided to try out for rugby instead

Back to eating now whatever he’s fed

His dreams of playing for the Yankees have fled

Along with most of his body

I see remarkable resemblances between your nonsensical storytelling & my own, so of course you know I love this! Your ideas are WAY outside the dots, which inspires me to push ever outward on my quest to disgust & confound the readers. I've actually mentioned hippos in two different poems this week. Do you suppose we're on a similar wavelength? V2 is my fave! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
