The 4:09

The 4:09

A Poem by Dave Brown

I met her on the 4:09 from Victoria

She had such soft lovely hair

But when I saw her big brown eyes

My heart said, “Better beware!”

I’m a sucker for gorgeous eyes

As I melted into the next seat

But before I could utter a sound

My heartbeat had to retreat

We went together to the harbor for a meal

She ordered a designer hot curry on rice

Which I thought was kina strange

Especially because of the price

But those brown eyes held me

I was hypnotically stunned

Although, after drinks, meal and all

I wondered if I could get a refund

Gorgeous eyes had cost me a bundle

My wallet was left with one major dent

But as we look back on our life together

They were worth every last cent
