Turkey Tale

Turkey Tale

A Poem by Dave Brown

Being a turkey on thanksgiving

Makes a turkey not want to be seen

The concept of being eaten is so stressful

They’ve developed evasion techniques

Tho’ they’ve been none too successful

There was the duck ploy first undertaken

That many turkeys had a huge stake in

Jumping into a pond and commencing to quack

But they couldn’t swim and none ever came back

Then the thing about de-protruding the neck

But the head choppers block was really hi-tech

A serious swing-a-tha-axe, was all it took

And each terrored turkey’d had their last look

Desperately, there was the thing about Mars

Was escape possible way up in the stars

Furiously flapping to escape human beings

But the pathetic result was just, a-hill-a beans

Now-a-days turkeys are resigned to their fate

As they’re sliced and diced upon every plate

Those raising turkeys, think its real great

But thoughtful turkeys are still deep in debate
