A Chapter by Dave Brown

From mountain top, springs melting snow

Sends sweet water into the valley below

Through mountain’s carved crevasses

Where each Doe and Fawn silently passes

In high branches a stirring of leaves

Aside moss coverings, high in the trees

Where little people are to be found

With movements creating barely a sound

Mongst the tall grasses covered in dew

A soft spotted fawn just born anew

A quiet awareness greets each sound

As Fawn and Doe together lay down

They neath the trees in the spring grass

Part of the forest to all those who pass

Brown eyes search the forest each day

Till fawn is more able, hidden she’ll stay

As stream wanders past fawn barely seen

Doe sees a movement, her eyes ever keen

Sound of leaf crackle upon forest floor

The golden-haired maiden has come to adore

She has come to sit with fawn out of sight

From neither a sound, ever so slight

She leans back, rests against a tree

Fawn lays a gentle head on her knee

Lying together like peaches and cream

Like forest shadows longside the cool stream

A dragonfly touches streams water nearby

The Fairy’s look down from their places on high

Maiden and fawn watch through the trees

As bright winged butterflies flutter with ease

Hummingbird’s sip nectar from flowers

Stardust sprinkles down through the hours

Freshwater tumbles over creek bed

Past family nests where babies are fed

Crossing the valley showing no haste

Time abundant, forever to waste

Maiden at dusk returns cross forest floor

Will come again, the fawn to adore

Small people settle down for the night

In the morning will resume fairy flight

The enchanted valley, the fairy’s home

From this storied haven, they never roam

Where clear water tumbles on through

Forever feeding life grown anew
