Maiden and Butterfly

Maiden and Butterfly

A Poem by Dave Brown
"

A breath

"

When I fluttered down onto her hand

And she took me up to her face

The colors of my wings shone out

As I nestled in place

It felt so very natural

As I rested gently there

As tho just her being

Was a part of morn’s air

And I saw the color from my wings

Yellow, brown, and blue

Like a captured prize

In the liquid brown of her eyes

Reflecting a moment of we two

We tenderly shared together

The maiden and the butterfly

And then, with a soft goodbye

Gently, blew me away

As though I were a feather

I’ll be honest: I found this piece by searching the keyword “butterfly”, as I have just published my own piece about a butterfly to the site.

I love how proud the butterfly seemed in the beginning, only to lose that confidence a few lines lower because the maiden dismissed him. How often do we unknowingly dismiss the beauty in life for something ultimately lesser? Tough lesson learned for this butterfly you wrote about. Thanks for sharing.

You personified the butterfly here and it worked beautifully. Not only is this poem filled with descriptive imagery but it also has a certain poignancy in the meaning. Love!y work Dave.

Though this rhymed offering captures a delicate moment in nature, it also symbolizes the plight of many guys. Who among us has not approached a young thing of comely appearance, been treated to a few pleasant smiles and then been blown off, as though we were feathers, or maybe dandruff?

Under those circumstances, probably the best thing to have happened
