Dirty Rat

Dirty Rat

A Poem by Dave Brown
"

sandwich situation

"

When I pulled my shootin iron

Revenge was the call

That, that ate my sandwich

Was that dirty rat, which was none too small

Thinkin I’d blow out some brains

I had an unfortunate recall

Because I remembered I couldn’t hit

A damn thing at all

I thought perhaps

It could be a whole bunch better

If I wrote that big dirty rat

A really nice letter

Explaining bout good manners

And all stuff like that

An bout how overeating

Could make a rat fat

Since thoughtfully sending that very nice letter

Things seem very much better all round

No more sandwiches going missing

Has been what I’ve found

Although I did recently dig

A prepretary hole in the ground

Since extra shooting lessons

Have had my aim come around

Once again, your high-flying imagination is fully unfurled here. I do not suggest writing a love letter to a dirty rat. One time (after nights of enduring my neighbor's new puppy whining horribly becuz he was delegated to a far-off dog-run & never allowed into their house) I wrote my neighbor a love letter (as if written by the dog) asking if he could please be included as one of the family. My neighbor called the cops on me & pressed charges. I was hauled off to jail & had to go to court more than once to defend myself. In my experience, love letters often backfire (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
